Updated: Mar 29, 2020

Itinerary-

Day 1,2:

Arrived in Cusco, via Lima layover. Spent first day exploring Cusco main square and local market.

Next day, took guided day trip to Chinchero, Maras, Moray and Sacred valley.

Day 3,4:

Inca trail- We opted for 2 day Inca trail. Got up early in morning to catch train from Ollantaytambo to base of Inca trail.

After couple of hour train stops in middle of jungle to start trail. First day is mostly spent on trekking through Inca trail to arrive at base of Machu Picchu around sunset. Take in the glorious view of Machu Picchu and take bus down to town and spend night in hotel.

Next day is reserved for exploring ruins of Machu Picchu with our guide.

In the afternoon take train back to Cusco.

Day 5:

After rigorous trek of Machu Picchu this day is for rest and do light exploring in Cusco

Day 6,7:

Morning Flight to Puerto Maldonado to explore rain forest of Amazon.

We stayed at jungle lodge- Refugio Amazonas. This is all inclusive lodge with most of guided excursions planned. This lodge is famous for Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick where macaw sightings are guaranteed.

Day 8:

Afternoon flight back to Lima, spent rest of the evening exploring Lima.

Logistics-

Inca Trail

If you are going to Peru, Inca Trail and Machu Picchu must be on your list.

There are only limited number of people are allowed at Machu Picchu every day and even less on Inca trail.

2 Day and 4 Day Inca trail are most popular options, and you can book them via guided tour operator only. We would recommend them to book them well in advance as they run out of permits quickly, especially in summer months.

Hotel

Cusco- Hilton Garden Inn

Amazon- Refugio Amazonas

Lima- Radisson

Food

Food was fantastic, lot of vegeterian and vegan options. Quinoa and potato is daily staple

of Inca people.

We would highly encourage to explore local

restaurants in Cusco.

Transportation

It's easy to hire local taxi with driver on daily basis. We did not rent car, as we did not feel

comfortable to drive on narrow and winding roads of Cusco.

In Amazon area you don't need car, resort

should take care of transportation.

Vaccination

If you are going to Rainforest, yellow fever is must.

Also malaria and typhoid dose is recommended.

Visa

For Indian citizens, if you have valid USA visa then you get visa on arrival at Peru.

For up to date information, please visit Peru Consulate.

Flights

We took Avianca flights from SFO to Lima, with layover in San Salvador.

All internal flights were also booked on Avianca.

Caution: Domestic flights get delayed often, especially in Cusco area
